The Teddy bear family /משפחת הדובים

Noga S., Noga R. and Yasmin, from third and forth grade, sewed those happy teddy bears during our sewing class. Each teddy bear, with his own personality ! Slowly, as the teddy bear came to shape, the girls gave him life, a name, a voice and a character of it’s own. The teddy bears started interacting, sharing stories all the while noga, noga and yasmin sewed them clothes. They became a happy family.

The day this family picture was taken, their was a lot of excitement in the studio ! And as you can see on the picture, the teddy bears willingly shared their joy of being part of the family.

משפחת הדובים 

נגה ש., נגה ר. ויסמין מכיתות ג’ ו-ד’, תפרו את הדובונים השמחים האלה בחוג התפירה שלנו. לכל דובי יש אישיות משלו! בהדרגה, תוך כדי תהליך יצירת הדובונים, הבנות נתנו לכל דובי חיים, שם, קול ואופי משלו. הדובונים התחילו ליצור אינטראקציה אחד עם השני ושיתפו סיפורים בזמן שנגה, נגה ויסמין תפרו להם בגדים. עכשיו הם משפחה מאושרת.

ביום שצלמנו את התמונה המשפחתית הזו, הייתה התרגשות גדולה בסטודיו! וכפי אתם יכולים לראות בתמונה, הדובונים שמחו מאוד להציג לכולם כמה כיף להם להיות חלק מהמשפחה.

Avigail and Naomi’s cats / החתולים של נעמי ואביגיל

Avigail, kindergarden and Noami, First grade hand sewed these beautiful cats during our sewing class.

The project was inspired by ” Kids’ Embroidery” Kristin Nicholas.

Miniature fantasy world /עולם של פנטזיה מיניאטורי – מחזור שני

כל מחזור של קייטנת הקיץ שונה כל כך מבחינת היצירות, האווירה והדינמיקה. הנושאים בהם אנחנו עוסקים אינם משתנות בין מחזור למחזור, אך מה שמתקבל כתוצאה מהמפגש בין הילדים בקייטנה ובינינו, “המורים”, ייחודי לרגע ולקבוצה. בכל פעם מחדש אני נפעמת מכך ויחד עם זאת מרגישה שזה הדבר הטבעי והנכון. בסופו של דבר, מה שבאמת חשוב הוא המפגש בין אנשים והדברים הנפלאים שנולדים ממפגשים מסוג זה, יצירתיות חיה ונושמת.

Every session of the Summer Camp is so different in it creations, atmosphere and dynamic. Themes are the same but what come out of the meeting between the children in the camp and between us, the “teachers”  is unique to the moment and to the group. It both amazes me at new each  time and both feel so natural and true. It’s all about a meeting between living beings and what come out of it, a creativity alive.

Miniature fantasy world / עולם של פנטזיה מיניאטורי – מחזור ראשון

העולם של נוגה

במהלך ששת השבועות של קייטנת הקיץ, חקרנו את עולם האגדות והפנטזיה. כל המשתתפות בקייטנה יצרו סיפורים וכתבו ספרים משלהן. לאחר שסיימו את תהליך הכתיבה, כל אחת מהן נעזרה בדמיונה בכדי ליצור עולם מיניאטורי המייצג את הסיפור שלה. במהרה, האצבעות שלהן הפכו להיות פיות קטנות שתופרות, בונות וצובעות והכל בגודל קטן קטן.

כל אחת מהבנות הצליחה להגיע בעזרת הדמיון האישי שלה לרמת יצירתיות יוקדת, וכל אחת הצליחה לברוא יצירה מאוד אישית.

אני רוצה להודות לכל הבנות על כך שהזכירו לי כל יום שאין גבולות ליצירתיות ולדמיון.

During the six weeks of summer camp, we have been exploring the world of  tales and fantasy. The children created their own stories and wrote their books. Then they imagined and created a miniature world illustrating their stories. Their fingers became those of fairies, sewing, building, painting in small small fashion. Each one of the girls, brought it’s imagination to a boiling creativity, giving birth to a very personal work of art. I want to thank the girls for reminding me every day, that creativity and imagination has no limit. Thank-you and enjoy the sharing.

במהלך קייטנת הקיץ, חקרתי את עולם סיפורי האגדות, הפיות, הגמדים וגמדי הגינה. עולם מלא בדמיון, פנטזיה וחלומות המאפשרים לנו ליצור מחדש את העולם כפי שהוא באמת, כפי שהיה מזמן לפני ששכחנו.

הזמנתי את הילדים ליצור חברים קטנים משלהם בהשראת החברים של איימי. הילדים יצרו חברים מקסימים, ולכל אחד אישיות מיוחדת משלו.

During our summer camp, we explored the world of tales, fairies and dwarfs and gnomes. A world full of imagination, fantasy and dreams that enable to recreate the world as it is really, as we have long forgotten.

I invited the children to create their own little friends following the inspiration of Amy’s friend. They created charming friends, each one with it’s own personality.

הכנה

הדביקו צד אחד של קיסם השיניים בתוך החור של חרוז העץ ונעצו את צדו השני לתוך פקק השעם.

קצרו את האורך לפי הצורך, כך שהקיסם יהפוך לצוואר של הבובה.

גזרו בגדים מלבד: חתיכה אחת לכיסוי פקק השעם. חתיכה אחת לגלימה וחתיכה נוספת לכובע.

גזרו חתיכה של לבד או בד שתשמש כצעיף ובנוסף תשמש כיסוי לצוואר קיסם השיניים.

הדביקו כל חתיכה במקום המתאים.

קשטו את הבגדים והכובע בחרוזים או באלמנטים טבעיים.

ציירו פנים בעזרת עפרונות הצבע. חלק מהילדים מעדיפים להשתמש בטושים.

לרגליים, תוכלו להשתמש במנקי מקטרות או חוט ברזל מצופה.

How did we make the felt miniature dolls ?

We kept it quite simple.

Materials

A bottle cork

Wooden bead

Wooden tooth pic

Felt and fabric

Glue

Colored pencil

Beads

Pipe cleaners

Preparation

Glue the tooth pic in the wooden bead hole on one end and stick it in the cork on the other end. Cut it to size, for it to act as the neck of the doll.

Cut all the felt clothes : One piece to cover the cork. One piece for the cape. One piece for the hat.

Cut a piece of felt or fabric for the scarf. It will also cover the tooth pic neck.

Glue in place

Decorate the clothes and hat with beads or natural elements

Draw the face with color pencil. Some children preferred using markers.

For the feet, you can use pipe cleaners or covered wire.

The children write their books – ילדות כותבות סיפורים משלהן

אני אוהבת לעודד את הילדות לכתוב סיפורים, ליצור מתוך הדמיון שלהן ולשאוב השראה מסיפורים שהן אוהבות או מחוויות החיים שלהן. תהליך הכתיבה הופך למסע נפלא במהלכו הילדות תמיד מפתיעות אותי עם ההומור שלהן, רוחב ליבן, עומק הדמיון ועושר היצירתיות שלהן. בדרך כלל אינני מתערבת בתהליך כתיבת הסיפור, אני שואלת שאלות רק כשנראה לי שהסיפור אינו ברור. אז הן עוצרות לחשוב מעט, ובהתלהבות חוזרות לספר את הסיפור. לפעמים אני שואלת שאלות שונות כשאני חשה שהן מעוניינות לגלות את הרגשות שלהם או חוויה אישית אך הן אינן מבטאות את החוויות או הרגשות הללו באופן מלא. בדך כלל, הילדות תמיד שמחות לשתף יותר. תהליך כתיבת סיפור מורכב מעבודה אישית, מלאה ברגשות ובביטוי עצמי.

I love to bring children to write stories, create them from their imagination and finding inspiration from stories they like or from their personal experience. It’s a wonderful journey where the children always surprise me with their humor, generous heart, imagination and creativity. I usually don’t interfere in their story writting, I ask questions when the story doesn’t seem clear. They think a little, and go back to the story telling with enthusiasm. Sometime’s I ask other questions when I feel they want to reveal their feelings or personal experience and don’t quite express it to it’s fullness. They are usually happy to share more. It’s an intimate work, full of feelings and personal expression.

Paper Butterfly mobile / מובייל פרפרי נייר

This year, for Tu bishvat, I was looking for a light poetic atmosphere. Tali Buchler’s butterflies inspired me. I created with the children a paper Butterfly mobile. It’s a very feminine mobile, poetic and full of charm. I know wish to create a huge butterfly in my house hanging between the two floors of the house, I have an open space just waiting for the flying butterflies.

How to create this butterfly mobile

Materials

A nice tree branch, the diameter of a broom stick

Recycled News Paper, Magazine paper, or colorful paper

Thin wire

Nylon thread

Hot glue

Beads (plastic or glass or wood) the size of a marble

Preparation

1. Cut paper squares of different sizes, from 5×5 cm to 15×15 cm
2. Creating the paper butterfly :

• Start from one corner of the paper square and fold it in accordion all the way through. The thinner the folds, the more delicate looking the butterfly.
• Open the square to see the folds. Cut one fold under the middle fold.
• Bring the two corners one in front of the other. At this point you can round the edges of the butterfly by cutting the edges in a circular shape. I did this with my butterflies, it gives a softer look.
• Fold them on the outside.
• Join the two pieces with a thin wire. I used gold colored wire. Then you can shape the antennas as you like. Spiral Shapes… It gives a very feminine touch.

3. Glue the Paper butterflies on the fishing wire with a small drop of hot glue on the middle of the folding of the butterly.
4. Knot the Nylon threads with the butterflies around the wooden stick.

5. Add a bead on the other end of the thread, to pull the thread down and straighten the butterflies. The are light, so they tend to bend horizontally.

לכבוד ט”ו בשבט השנה, חיפשתי אווירה פואטית קלילה. הפרפרים של טלי בוכלר עוררו בי השראה. יצרתי עם הילדים מובייל מפרפרי נייר. המובייל הזה הוא מאוד נשי, פואטי ומלא קסם. כעת אני רוצה ליצור מובייל פרפרים ענק שירחף לו בבית שלי במרחב שבין שתי הקומות. יש לי חלל פתוח שממש מחכה לפרפרים מרפרפים.

כיצד ליצור מובייל פרפרים

החומרים

ענף יפה של עץ, בקוטר של מקל מטאטא

עיתוני נייר, מגזינים, או ניירות צבעוניים ישנים, המיועדים למחזור

חוט מתכת דק

חוט ניילון

דבק חם

חרוזים (פלסטיק, זכוכית או עץ) בגודל של ג’ולה

אופן ההכנה

1.חתכו ריבועי נייר בגדלים שונים, החל מ- 5X5 ס”מ ועד 15X15 ס”מ.

יצירת פרפרי נייר

1.התחילו בפינה אחת של ריבוע הנייר וקפלו אותו לאקורדיון לכל אורכו. ככל שהקיפולים צרים יותר, הפרפר ייראה מעודן יותר.

2.פיתחו את הריבוע כך שתראו את הקיפולים שנוצרו. חיתכו קיפול אחד מתחת לקיפול המרכזי.

3.הביאו את שתי הפינות אחת מול השנייה. בשלב זה תוכלו לעגל את הפינות של הפרפר ע”י חיתוך הקצוות באופן מעוגל. אני עיגלתי את קצות הפרפרים שלי, זה נתן להם מראה רך יותר.

קפלו אותם מבחוץ.

4.חברו את שני החלקים בעזרת חוט המתכת הדק. אני השתמשתי בחוט מתכת בצבע זהב. עכשיו תוכלו לעצב את המחושים של הפרפר כרצונכם. צורות ספירליות… נגיעה של נשיות.

5.הדביקו את פרפרי הנייר על חוט דייג עם טיפה קטנה של דבק חם במרכז הקיפולים של הפרפר.

6.קשרו את חוטי הניילון עם הפרפרים לאורך ענף העץ.

7.הוסיפו חרוז על הקצה השני של החוט, בכדי להוסיף כובד ולמשוך את החוט כלפי מטה וליישר את הפרפרים. הפרפרים קלילים, ולכן הם נוטים לרחף במאוזן.

Flower Pots / עציצי פרחים

Last year for Tu bishvat, we created flower pots with the children in Edna’s Tzaaron. It came out so colorful and happy ! It’s an easy activity to do with children.

Material Needed 

Flower pot, you can use all kinds of recycled flower pots. We worked with plastic pots.

Primer white Acrylic

Different Acrylic colors

Sponge

Paint brush

Stencils

Creating the Flower pots 

1. With the sponge Paint two layers of white acrylic primer on the flower pots. It will hold the acrylic color stronger on the flower pots. It also gives a light uniform layer for all colors to stand out when decorating. Let dry.
2. Create the color back ground with color acrylic of your choice. Use the sponge to create a light background. Sightly press the humid sponge in the paint plate and apply it by a light press, removing the sponge and pressing again next to it. It gives the painting a cloudy athmosphere. Let dry.
3. Apply the stencils on the pots and paint the figure. this can be done with the sponge or with a paint brush. It is important to teach the children not to move the stencil while painting for a clear drawing.
4. At the end the can add hand drawn decorations with thin paint brush.
5. Plant flowers, seeds, or bulbs for them to take care and watch growing.

בשנה שעברה יצרנו עם הילדים בצהרון של עדנה עציצי פרחים לכבוד ט”ו בשבט. העציצים יצאו כל כך צבעוניים ושמחים! הפעילות הזו קלילה ומתאימה מאוד לילדים.

הכנת עציצי פרחים 

1.בעזרת הספוג צבעו את העציצים בשתי שכבות של פריימר אקריליק לבן. הפריימר יתפוס את הצבעים האקריליים טוב יותר על העציצים. בנוסף, הפריימר גם נותן שכבת רקע עדינה ומאפשר לצבעים האחרים לבלוט יפה לאחר הקישוט. הניחו בצד לייבוש.

2.ערבבו צבע שישמש כרקע לפי בחירתכם. השתמשו בספוג בכדי ליצור צבע רקע בהיר. הצמידו בקלילות את הספוג הלח אל לוח הצבע וצבעו את העציץ בלחיצות עדינות, חזרו על פעולה זו וצבעו בלחיצה עדינה את האזור שליד האזור שכבר צבעתם. שיטה זו גורמת לצבע להראות “מעונן”. הניחו בצד לייבוש.

3.הניחו את השבלונה על העציץ וצבעו בתוך הדוגמא. ניתן לצבוע בעזרת ספוג או מברשת ציור. חשוב ללמד את הילדים לשים לב לכך שהשבלונה לא זזה מהמקום בזמן המילוי בצבע בכדי שהציור יצא חד וברור.

4.לאחר השימוש בשבלונות, אפשר גם לצייר ציורים וקישוטים באופן חופשי בעזרת מברשת ציור דקה.

5.עכשיו אפשר לנטוע בעציץ שתיל פרחים, זרעים או בצל, לטפל בהם ולראות איך הפרחים נובטים, צומחים ופורחים.

Tree wallet / ארנק העץ

This was an interesting project. A while ago, I started creating a wallet for my young children sewing class, as an sample. I had no plans, just sewing and creating as I go, trying new techincs and mixing materials . As I went along, I slowly understood that I should not limit myself to what I thought were the technical abilities of the children but create as I wish. From the beginning I showed the project to the children in my class, and shared with them the progression of the project. They loved it, they were so enthusiastic seing every step, discovering the new elements, giving me their opinion on what part was more beautiful to their eyes. And waiting for me to finish, with pride. They were pround of me that I finnish ! As we are pround of them when they finish a project.

The most important thing that understood during this project was that we don’t have to bend to their technical level when we create a project meant  to inspire them. The opposite, children want to be inspired by our truth, our true level of creativity. They well know the difference between my hand and theirs, and it’s no an issue. They want to be elevated by our work, source of inspiration that they then freely translate into their own work.

הפרויקט הזה מאוד מעניין.

לפני זמן רב, התחלתי להכין ארנק שישמש כדוגמא לשיעור תפירה שאני מעבירה לילדים צעירים. לא הייתה לי תכנית, הרעיון היה פשוט לתפור וליצור תוך כדי, לנסות טכניקות חדשות ולשלב חומרים. תוך כדי ההתקדמות בעבודה, התחלתי להבין, בהדרגה, שאני לא צריכה להגביל את עצמי לתפיסה שלי של היכולות הטכניות של הילדים, אלא ליצור לפי רצוני. שיתפתי את הילדים המשתתפים בשיעור התפירה שלי בתהליך היצירה החל מהשלב הראשון של הפרויקט. והם ממש אהבו את הפרויקט. הם כל כך התלהבו מהעובדה שהם יכולים לראות כל שלב, לגלות את האלמנטים החדשים. וכל הזמן שיתפו אותי ואמרו לי מה יפה יותר בעיניהם. הילדים חיכו שאסיים את הפרויקט עם המון גאווה. וכשסיימתי הם היו כל כך גאים בי! ממש באותה מידה כמו שאני גאה בהם כשהם מסיימים פרויקט.

התובנה החשובה ביותר שלי מהפרויקט הזה היא שכשאנחנו יוצרים פרויקט שמטרתו לתת השראה, אנחנו לא צריכים לעשות מאמצים בכדי לשנות את הרמה הטכנית של הפרויקט באופן כזה שתתאים ליכולות של הילדים. ההפך הוא הנכון, ילדים רוצים לקבל השראה מהאמת שלנו, מהרמה האמתית של היצירה. הם מבינים היטב את ההבדל בין היד היוצרת שלי ושלהם, וזה ממש לא מהווה בעיה. הם רוצים שהעבודה שלי תהווה פלטפורמה ממנפת ומקור השראה אותו הם יוכלו לתרגם לעבודה שלהם.
